In theory, wine cellars are used either to store wine for a long period of time or to chamber it before tasting. Liebherr has nevertheless just unveiled the Vinidor EWTDF3553, a model with two zones, one for each of these functions.

The German Liebherr adds a reference to its already extensive catalog of wine cellars with the Vinidor EWTDF3553, a 178 cm high device capable of accommodating 80 bottles. Slightly less prestigious than its counterparts in the Monolith series, it is nonetheless a sophisticated setting for preserving its great wines if we rely on the technical data sheet, which includes, for example, an electronic temperature adjustment (from 5 at 20°C) in the two zones that make up its enclosure. Because the Vinidor EWTDF3553 is a multipurpose cellar. Theoretically, it can be used to preserve for very long periods of nectars which will improve over time at an ideal and stable temperature of 12°C and, simultaneously, to store bottles at the required service temperature (5 to 7° C for champagne, 8 to 12°C for white wine, 14°C to 20°C for red, etc. just before they are opened.

It should be noted that Liebherr has chosen ventilated brewed cold to maintain freshness in the wine cellar, a carbon filter being responsible for capturing and retaining odors which would not fail to depreciate the taste qualities of the bottles. Of course, the storage shelves are made of wood and those located at the bottom are tiltable so that everyone can admire the most prestigious wines contained in the Vinidor EWTDF3553.

If all this seems very attractive on paper, Jérôme Baudouin, journalist for The French Wine Reviewexplained to us in a file devoted to wine cellars that multi-use models could not constitute an effective alternative for the conservation of great wines: “It is a model of cellar which tends to disappear since it is energy-intensive and the distribution of the cold is often not respected.“. And indeed, looking at the Vinidor EWTDF3553, we realize that if it accommodates two storage areas, it only closes with a single door. The hot air which will not fail to enter the wine cellar risks varying the temperature by 12°C each time the user takes a bottle, which seems incompatible with the aging function. But it is perhaps to avoid this phenomenon (or at least in mitigate the effects) that the Vinidor EWTDF3553 cellar is equipped with two independent cooling circuits.
