The health system in Switzerland is expensive, but it produces better results than the German one. The Confederates show that it is important to spend all that money wisely.
NI recently had a visit from a friend who moved to Switzerland with his family a few years ago for work. We are, to put it mildly, not really aligned politically: he is anti-capitalist, a self-confessed member of the Left Party and thinks our economic system – blatantly unequal and unjust – cannot really be reformed from within.
My friend, however, is anything but an ideologue, but a wide-awake, witty spirit, ready to be corrected by empiricism. There is such a thing. As is to be expected, before moving to Switzerland he was of the opinion that the healthcare system there, in the model country of healthcare capitalism, was useless and had to be the hell of two-class medicine. The reality amazed him all the more.
