Lifehack video: Fresh ice cubes in 30 minutes

Ice cubes that are ready to use almost immediately: In the video you can see which trick you can use to get ice-cold drinks at lightning speed!

We have all had the problem before: of all times, on the perfect, hot summer day, when we finally have time and desire for an ice-cold drink, we remember that we have no ice cubes in the fridge. And now? Fortunately, you no longer have to wait until the next day for your refreshment: A practical lifehack shows how you can get to the ice cubes in just half an hour.

A whim of physics

The trick works through the so-called "Mpemba effect", which allows water to freeze particularly quickly. It is actually a mystery to science exactly why. There are numerous theories that could explain a possible cause – but none of them has yet been proven beyond any doubt.

How long do ice cubes last?

While many of us have the problem that there is spontaneously no ice in the freezer, the opposite is true for others of us: they are so well organized that they put ice cubes in the freezer weeks or months ago. Only – can you still throw them in your drink now, or do you risk food poisoning? In fact, old ice cubes are not entirely without – especially if they are made in an open form. There not only other flavors in the freezer have direct contact with the ice, but also potentially harmful bacteria. And regardless of the risk of illness, old ice cubes also have a very unpleasant taste, which immediately spoils the good summer mood. Therefore, there is no binding indication of when ice cubes become "bad" – depending on the container and taste sensitivity, the fluctuations are too great. But as a rule of thumb, it's probably better if you consume the ice cubes within four weeks.

Fresh refreshes better

Luckily, you don't have to build long-term ice cube stocks: as long as you have a tap, a mold, a freezer and half an hour, you can use this trick to enjoy fresh ice cubes in a very short time without unpleasant aftertaste. Just give it a try!
