Liga: Santi Mina, sentenced for sexual abuse, requests his reinstatement at Celta Vigo

Spanish striker Santi Mina, sentenced in May for sexually assaulting a woman in 2017 near Almeria, asked for his “immediate reinstatementat Celta Vigo, the La Liga club said on Monday.

The 26-year-old, who has appealed the court ruling, demands “his immediate reintegration into team training sessions“, said the Galician club in a press release.

Celta had temporarily dismissed the player from first-team training and opened disciplinary proceedings against him after his conviction last May to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in 2017.

The Almeria court had brought against the player the charge of “sexual abuse» but not that of «sexual assaultcategory including rape, which requires proof of intimidation or violence under the Spanish penal code.

The player was sentenced for facts dating back to 2017, when he played for Valencia, and that he was on vacation in Mojácar, near Almeria, with a friend, also a footballer, David Goldar.

According to the court’s decision, the facts occurred in a vehicle near a nightclub.

Mina has announced that he will appeal this conviction, which is therefore not yet final.

Celta warn that they “reserves the right to claim, if the conviction is confirmed, all damages caused by the behavior of the player, both economically and in terms of the image of the club, respecting his right of appeal from today today“.
