Light and strong – Honda brings back the Hornet as the CB750

Honda unveiled the new CB750 Hornet at the Intermot in Cologne. An important name for the brand is thus celebrating its return to the model range – and with an overall concept that is as strong as it is light.

“Fast, agile, fun” is how Honda marketing describes the new mid-size streetfighter and promises “driving pleasure through the combination of lively engine performance, class-leading power-to-weight ratio, balance, stability and agile handling.” and 75 Nm at 7250 revs, which the parallel twin gets from 755 ccm. Makes a strong power-to-weight ratio – and an impressive output per liter of extrapolated 120 hp. Honda promises powerful pulling and equally “power punch” in the upper speed range. The top speed is given as 205 km/h, the fuel consumption as 4.35 l/100 km/h. Anti-hopping clutch obligatory. The new engine has a crankshaft with a special 270° offset and uneven firing order, which is intended to support “the friendly, pulsating running culture”, the exhaust is intended to deliver “intoxicating sound”, patented vortex intake ducts for a soulful ensure gas acceptance. The cylinder liners are coated with wear-reducing Ni-SiC (nickel silicon carbide), as in the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. The chassis is new. The steel frame weighs only 16.6 kg, the engine is built in to support the vehicle. The 41mm Big Piston upside-down fork with new triple clamps carries a 17″ wheel with a 120/70 tire, the rear wheel is surprisingly narrow: a 17″ Wheel guided with 160/60 tires. The spring strut with 150 mm travel is adjustable in preload. Braking is done at the front with two radially bolted brake calipers with 296 mm discs. The five-inch TFT color display offers connectivity via the Honda smartphone voice control system, for Android devices and, for the first time, for iOS devices. The lighting is completely LED, the indicators are self-resetting. With Throttle by Wire, the new Honda Hornet offers three predefined driving modes, which regulate the parameters performance, engine braking and traction control with integrated wheelie control. In addition, a user mode allows the driver to save selected individualized settings. The market launch in Austria is planned for January 2023, at a price of 8690 euros.
