The iX also allows itself the luxury of being a little childish: the steering wheel is hexagonal. You can cope with that, it’s not practical. Maybe BMW wants to allude to six cylinders with the six corners. It’s good that it is at least not octagonal, so you still have reasonably good hand positions. Instead of cylinders, there are electric motors, or to be more precise, an energized synchronous machine each, which, due to its design, does without rare earths. In the basic xDrive40 model, they have a total of 326 hp, next year the iX M60 will follow with over 600 hp, in the xDrive50 driven here it is 385 kW or 523 hp. This balances the 2.5-ton truck in just 4.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h, at 200 it is limited.
