They are perfect for a barbecue evening, meeting friends or just for in between: pizza snails.

Quick and easy – and still so delicious! The rolled-up favorites made of fluffy puff pastry have already convinced at many parties and can be combined in an incredible number of ways.

Actually, you can pack almost all combos that you like on normal pizza in a pizza snail. The best thing about it: The crispy dough tastes great even when it is cold, and the ingredients in the pizza rolls do not dry out when they are rolled up.

You need this for the 5-ingredient pizza rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of puff pastry or pizza dough
  • 1 pack cream cheese
  • 400 g frozen or fresh spinach leaves
  • 200g feta
  • 1 jar of dried tomatoes

Spices (optional):

  • garlic
  • cayenne pepper
  • pepper and salt
  • some nutmeg
  • some olive oil

that’s how it works

  1. First you roll out the puff pastry or pizza dough on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  2. Then spread the cream cheese on top of the dough as the bottom topping.
  3. Prepare the spinach according to the package insert or blanch the fresh spinach for about three minutes. Then squeeze the water out of the prepared spinach.
  4. Crumble the feta in a bowl and mix the prepared spinach with the cheese.
  5. Cut the sun-dried tomatoes into small pieces and add them to the mixture.
  6. Season everything with a little olive oil, a little nutmeg, pepper and salt – but note that the feta itself is already very salty. If you like, you can also add freshly squeezed or finely chopped garlic and cayenne pepper.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees convection.
  8. Pour the spinach and feta mixture onto the dough and spread it out on the surface. Then roll out the dough lengthwise and cut it into pieces about one to two centimeters thick with a sharp knife. It may help to dip the knife in a glass of cold water and dry it before cutting again so the dough doesn’t stick too much. If you have time, you can put the dough roll in the fridge for about 30 minutes before cutting it.
  9. Now place the pizza snails on the baking sheet and bake them for about 25 to 30 minutes until they are golden brown.

Spinach and feta snails are just one of the many variations that are possible with the dough rolls. Instead of feta, for example, ricotta cheese is also suitable for the mixture. Other variants can be a mozzarella and tomato mixture with basil, rosemary, thyme and oregano or, for example, a cheese and cooked ham mixture with sour cream.

Ultimately, any topping that would normally end up on a pizza can work in a pizza snail. The possibilities seem endless. Pizza snails are always a good idea, especially when it needs to be done quickly, but we are actually expecting our friends in the evening.

They can be combined in a variety of ways for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans and are actually always a popular snack that is rarely left over. Instead of using animal products, you can, for example, use a vegan pesto as a basis or a (fresh) cheese substitute. The only important thing is to check the ready-made dough to see if it is also vegan.
