Adobe presented yesterday the new versions of its creative applications. Among them, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic are particularly blessed with new features.
Announced at the end of the day on Tuesday, the new versions of Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop should arrive by the end of the week.
Edit your videos with Lightroom
Lightroom is the reference photographic development software. As practical for retouching your images as for organizing your photo library in complex tree structures, until now it only authorized the processing of photographs. A bygone era says Adobe.
Concretely, the software will now allow you to apply the same settings to your videos as to your photos. We are talking both about the brightness and the intensity of the colors, but also of course about the calibration. The various predefined parameters (presets) that you could have saved can also be used on video files.
But beware, there is a trap. A sign that the publisher is trying to gradually push Lightroom Classic users towards the release, this new feature will only be available on Lightroom (mobile and desktop). This very connected version still lacks certain essential features for photographers, particularly in terms of image classification. In other words: it’s not yet tomorrow that Lightroom will replace Premiere.
High-end presets
Another ad: Presets, or presets, are getting a makeover on Lightroom (all versions, this time). A slider appears and allows – as for mobile filters – to adjust their intensity.
Also, the presets can now be applied to certain parts of the image only. Using Adobe’s algorithms, Lightroom can identify the subject of an image, or its background, and the user chooses to accord such preset to one, such preset to the other. A great time saver for professional photographers.
Speaking of professional photographers, Adobe has just approached some and some to offer five new presets packs “Premium“. Designed by Ayesha Kazim, Jessy J, Chelsi LeBarre, Megan Sumpton or Stu Maschwitz, they focus on portraits, concert scripts and video.
The other novelties
Among other things, Lightroom’s AI takes a leap forward. After having allowed us to automatically create masks (for the sky, the subject, etc.) in a previous version, this one allows us to copy and paste an existing mask on a new photo. By doing so, the mask will be automatically recalculated to fit the target photo. Once again, a huge time saver for those who spend hours developing their images.
Automatic red-eye correction also improves and Lightroom (version “no Classic“) must precisely relax on the management of local storage. Enough to tip the most refractory? The future will tell.
Moreover, Adobe seeks to develop the community aspect of Lightroom by adding a “remix” button (translate: retweet) to the Discover page of its application. In the same vein, Discover now includes a search field to easily find themes or tips shared by the community.
