Lightweight and practical – XEV Yoyo: ideal city e-car – with exchangeable batteries!

What looks like a toy version of a Smart Fortwo is not, strictly speaking, a real car, but still not a toy, but a mobility solution perfectly tailored to the city. The two-seater is an electrically powered small vehicle called Yoyo and is partly produced in a 3D printer.

In terms of format, the comparison with the Smart is pretty good, the Yoyo is 2.53 meters short. However, its electric motor only has a peak output of 15 kW / 20 PS and a maximum speed of 80 km / h. And it falls into the L7e lightweight class.

Without a battery, it only weighs 450 kilograms. The Yoyo’s battery consists of up to four removable elements, which together provide a capacity of 10.3 kWh and thus allow a range of 150 kilometers.

Charging is either done at the socket / charging station or you can call a service car via smartphone app and replace the empty batteries with full ones. Ideal if you don’t have a charging option:

The Yoyo is characterized by lively colors and a colorful interior with a large touchscreen as a display and control element. The equipment includes air conditioning, ABS, keyless entry and a panoramic roof. 160 liters fit in the trunk.

Market launch despite failed crowdfunding
The start-up XEV, founded in Turin in 2017, actually wanted to enable the market launch via crowdfunding after the first two roadworthy prototypes had been built in the development center in Shanghai in 2018. However, the financing target was clearly missed. The small Stromer with a price of only 6,000 euros was a very interesting offer.

Although the demand was low, XEV is now offering the Yoyo for sale in Italy and soon in other European countries as well. However, its price has more than doubled compared to the offer from 2019.

From the beginning of 2022, the yoyo will also hit the streets in Austria. It has not yet been said which prices apply in this country.
