  • “Lightyear” will be released in German cinemas on June 16, 2022.
  • The film is about Buzz Lightyear, who has always been voiced by Tim Allen in the “Toy Story” films.
  • Now Marvel star Chris Evans takes over the speaking role of the action figure. But he too had concerns about the line-up change.

Fans of the “Toy Story” animation series can rejoice because “Lightyear”, a spin-off of the successful Pixar films, is now available in cinemas. In the original, the role of Buzz Lightyear is no longer spoken by Tim Allen, but by “Captain America” actor Chris Evans. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he now said that he had similar concerns when accepting the role as he did with Captain America.

Evans reveals that he was obviously delighted to be working for Pixar and taking on such a well-known role. However, he also felt that he was only concerned. Following in the footsteps of Tim Allen (“Last Man Standing”) was intimidating and discouraging, especially since “Toy Story” has such a large fan base. They have certain ideas about how Buzz should be presented.

He agrees with fans that Allen did a great job portraying Lightyear and mentions that he’s a huge Toy Story fan himself. It is a big task for him as a new cast to continue and honor Allen’s work and thus also to take the wishes of the fans seriously. He felt similarly when he signed for the contract for “Captain America”. In this role, too, the fans had clear ideas that had to be fulfilled.

“Lightyear” is about the astronaut Buzz Lightyear, who serves as the inspiration for the famous “Toy Story” character, and who is stranded with his spaceship and crew on a planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth. Survival is not possible on this one. So Buzz searches for a way to get his companions and himself back home safely. This mission takes him through space and time.

Actress Patricia Heaton (“The Middle”) recently tweeted about Evans changing the role of Buzz Lightyear, calling the decision a “huge mistake.” She has yet to see the entire “Lightyear” movie, but made the statement after just seeing the trailer.

Whether Evans was actually miscast is something you’ll have to decide for yourself when you watch the film in its original voiceover. In the German dubbing, Tom Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”) speaks the well-known Space Ranger. At his side, you’ll hear presenter Aminata Belli (“deep and clear”) as an officer on Buzz’s team dedicated to securing galactic peace.
