This Tuesday, March 22, L’Equipe published its estimates of the salaries of Ligue 1 players. Unsurprisingly, PSG dominates the ranking… and by far!
When we talk about money in Ligue 1, there is PSG and the others. This Tuesday, March 22, the newspaper The Team released its usual and long-awaited salary supplement. This season, the median salary of players from the twenty Ligue 1 teams is around 40,000 euros gross monthly. But for Paris Saint-Germain players, they are very, very above. Proof: the 14 highest paid footballers in the championship are Parisians. In the capital club, the average salary approaches one million euros and they are no less than seven to pocket at least a six-figure salary every month. According to the estimates of The Team, Neymar is the lowest paid Ligue 1 player with a gross salary of 4,083,000 euros per month. Lionel Messi follows him closely with 3,375,000 euros gross per month.
The top three would be completed by Kylian Mbappé, who would receive 2,220,000 gross per month at PSG. Behind them, and in the top 10 of this season, seven other players from the capital club : Marquinhos (1,200,000 euros), Marco Verratti (1,200,000 euros), Achraf Hakimi (1,083,000 euros), Keylor Navas (1,000,000 euros), Angel Di Maria (950,000 euros), Georginio Wijnaldum (916,000 euros) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (916,000 euros). To find a player who does not belong to the PSG squad, you have to go to the 15th position of the highest paid sportsmen in Ligue 1, where the Monegasque Wissam Ben Yedder is, who would pocket 650,000 euros gross per month. Like him, only his teammate Cesc Fabregas (600,000 euros gross per month) climbed into the top 20 between … in which there are therefore no less than eighteen Parisians.
PSG: the wage bill has exploded
Among the coaches, it is unsurprisingly that of PSG which comes first since Mauricio Pochettino would earn 1.1 million euros gross per month, far ahead of Jorge Sampaoli, with 330,000 euros. Behind PSG, the most expensive clubs in terms of salaries are Marseille (average gross salary of 226,000 euros), Monaco (185,000 euros), Nice (130,000 euros) and Lyon (120,000 euros). Overall, the total mass of Ligue 1 salaries has gone from 1.38 billion euros in 2018-2019 to 1.73 billion euros this season. PSG went from 370 million euros to 629 million euros during this period.
