Ligue 1: Lille spoils against Reims after its draw (1-1) and sees the podium go away

Oliver Adey 6 January 2023 2 min read

As often this season, Lille lacked efficiency and lost valuable points by conceding a draw (1-1) against Reims on Monday during the 17th day of Ligue 1. LOSC, which had opened the scoring by Jonathan David in the first period (32nd), was surprised at the end of the match by the equalizer of Jens Cadjus (79th).

The Northerners, who harvested several opportunities, may still have regrets at the end of a meeting which they dominated but without being flamboyant for all that. Lille, which fell one place in the standings (7th, 30 points), thus missed the opportunity to put pressure on Rennes and Marseille, who were playing in the evening.

Valuable point for Reims

The Champenois, who extended their unbeaten streak to 9 matches (3 wins, 6 draws), have earned a valuable point and are now eight points ahead of the first relegation player, Brest.

Despite a first chance from Benjamin André with a header from a free kick by Rémy Cabella (2nd), the Mastiffs had a terrible time imposing their game against solid Rémois who considerably hampered their recovery by imposing very high pressing .

After a fifteen-minute cheering strike, the northern supporters gave voice to wake up their players, but it was nevertheless Reims who proved dangerous with a header above Noah-Jean Holm (21st) and a another from Marshall Munetsi well diverted by Lucas Chevalier (24th).

Valiant Remois

Losc ended up reacting and scored at the end of a good move: Cabella found Jonathan Bamba in the box, whose shot was saved by Yehvann Diouf but David followed well to score his first goal of the season ( 1-0, 32nd).

Just before half-time, the debates came alive with a poor exit from his area by the Reims goalkeeper, who however caught up in stride in front of Bamba (42nd), Then Chevalier repelled an attempt by Junya Ito (45th +1), before Edon Zhegrova wastes an opportunity by shooting above (45th +2).

The Kosovar wasted again on returning from the locker room by not finding the frame on two new attempts (54th, 55th), then Diouf repelled a shot from Cabella after a nice action from Lille (77th).

Reims had the merit of clinging on and punished Lille on one of their rare actions of the second period: Thibault De Smet found at the entrance to the area Cadjus, whose shot was deflected by the heel of Alexsandro and ended up in the small Lille net (1-1, 79th).
