Like a Dragon (Yakuza) too “underground” to be released on Switch

Franchise Yakuzanow called Like a Dragon in the West, is very popular in Japan, but also in the rest of the world. Games came out first on playstation before arriving on Xbox and PC, but some fans would like to find the adventures of Kazuma Kiryu on Nintendo Switch.

Well, it’s not about to happen. Masayoshi Yokoyama, director of Ryu ga Gotoku Studiodiscussed this subject with GameSpotexplaining why there is little chance of seeing the Like a Dragon on Switch. And no, it is not the fault of the power of the machine, but rather a question of mentality of the studio :

Do we want to put a game like this, where we walk around and choose to fight with everyone and do all that Yakuza stuff, on Switch?

We still think of ourselves as night people, right? We don’t want to walk around during the day with everyone. For us, it’s kind of showing that kind of underground feeling. I think the underground kind of feeling is what we want to do.

Yakuza/Like a Dragona franchise too “underground” for the Nintendo Switch? Well yes, it would seem, from the month after Masayoshi Yokoyama. Remember, however, that the portable home console has broken its image as a platform for children by hosting games like the latest DOOM, Tormented Souls, Project Zero: Priestess of the Black Waters or even the Layers of Fearwithout forgetting the resident Evil (by the way, the last parts are coming soon in Cloud Version). Suffice to say that these are much more violent, bloody and “underground” games than the Like a Dragon

As a reminder, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio announced during this TGS 2022 many games including Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name or Like a Dragon 8. You can find The Yakuza Remastered Collection – Day One Edition at €49.99 on Amazon.
