like Paris, the game multiplies its number of rats

The strong point of the game A Plague Tale, in addition to its narration and its beauty, lies in its management of rats. Integral part of the game’s gameplay and art direction.

A Plague Tale had marked in particular thanks to its rather crazy management of the rats and the psychological impact on the environment and the spirit of the player. Well for the sequel, the Requiem episode, the French studio Asobo wanted to go even further in the anxiety by increasing its number of rodents.

A Plague Tale is betting big on its rats

The management of rats in the first game.

Thus, A Plague Tale: Requiem will feature 300,000 rats on PS5, is sixty times more rats than the original game. It is on the occasion of a PlayStation ticket that we can learn the news. Nicolas Bécavin, main programmer of the game engine, says about this:

Rats are a key feature of A Plague Tale, and for this second game we wanted to push the next-gen possibilities to the max to take rat-induced horror and trauma to the next level. The number of rats on screen has increased 60 times, from 5,000 to 300,000! It’s a good number to convey the vision of the apocalypse that increasingly oppresses our heroes. We also changed the look of their movement so that they look like a giant wave, a bit like a tsunami crashing into you. We’re lucky enough to work with our own in-house engine and rely on it to tackle tough renders like this, of something completely A Plague Tale specific.

The management of rats seems quite close to what we can see in the movie World War Z but with zombies, namely a kind of tide that rushes at us without real power over it. For the record, the game is scheduled for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S for October 18, 2022.
