Like The Rings of Power, The Boys has its share of misogynistic trolls: Erin Moriarty (Starlight) responds to them

Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight in The Boys series, called out some toxic and misogynistic fans of the superhero series on Amazon Prime Video. And she was able to count on the support of her play partners.

While The Rings of Power suffered a wave of review bombing (sabotage of a work by a mass of negative ratings) and racist and misogynistic criticism, another series available on Amazon Prime Video suffered violent comments with regard to its cast.

Actress Erin Moriarty, who plays Annie aka the superhero Starlight in The Boys, is the target of criticism from misogynist trolls, who hate her feminist persona. In season 3, Starlight defended itself from the Protector’s dictatorship by doing a livestream to denounce the crimes of the character played by Antony Starr, who brings together supremacists and masculinists in the United States.

Starlight’s response to the trolls

The young woman challenged her detractors on his Instagram account by sharing an article titled “#IStandWithStarlight: The betrayal of Erin Moriarty by ‘fans’ of The Boys”. This paper explains that the character is highly criticized on social networks and that those who do not differentiate between the character and the interpreter also take the opportunity to attack the actress.

Erin Moriarty also commented that she “feels silenced”, “dehumanized”, “paralyzed” in the face of this situation:

“I put blood, sweat and tears into this role (again and again and again). I grew into this character (*press the word grow – as we change and evolve mentally AND physically).

That being said: a) thanks to @butcherscanary b) it breaks my heart – I killed myself for this role and this kind of trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak against and c) everyone goes through their or his own battles; let’s not add more.

I will never add any intentionally and ESPECIALLY not publicly. It has only heightened my empathy and to anyone who comes after me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I’m all sympathy and forgiveness.”

Erin Moriarty’s playing partners did not hesitate to come forward to support her, like Chace Crawford (The Fish-Man) who splits a simple but effective “I love you”. For his part, Jack Quaid (Hughie) defends her:

“I love you Erin. We are all here for you. You are such an amazing and talented force of nature and I consider myself incredibly lucky to know you. Keep shining. Leave the trolls to us. We got your back.”

Finally, Antony Starr (The Protector) applauds and supports the speech of his playing partner: “I support you and stand behind what you say 100%. Well said. Your work on the show has always been and remains stellar and you are as beautiful inside as you are out. Keep shining.”

Let’s hope the actress suffers less misogynistic comments when the fourth season of The Boys – which will host Jeffrey Dean Morgan! – will be released on the Amazon Prime Video platform.
