It was a terrible tragedy which played out on Wednesday October 18, 2023 in the Bois-Blancs district, in Lille. Fabienne, a 68-year-old retired nurse, was brutally murdered in her home. Having surprised an individual in the middle of an attempted theft while she was going to the gym in the morning, the victim allegedly died after being stabbed in the throat. According to our colleagues at The voice of the North, marks of stab wounds were also noted on her legs and pelvis, suggesting that she struggled. However, the autopsy did not reveal any sexual assault. It was Fabienne’s ex-husband, who came to visit her that morning, who found her lifeless body just a few minutes after the murder. A suspect was arrested the same evening.
Placed in pre-trial detention, the minor risks up to 30 years in prison
Alerted by screams, an elderly neighbor of Fabienne surprised her attacker without being able to intervene. Finally, a suspect was arrested during the night, around 3 a.m., while he was looking for a place to sleep. This is’a 17 year old teenagerwhose identity is unknown, who presents himself as being of Ivorian nationality. The voice of the North describes it as A “unaccompanied minor” in an irregular situation, whose Mental Health “ask a question”. Very agitated during his custody, he did not admit the facts. A psychiatric assessment should be carried out soon, at the request of his lawyer Me Gaëlle Métairie. The young man was questioned in the premises of the Lille judicial police, before finally being indicted on the evening of Friday October 20, 2023.
“The person concerned, an unaccompanied minor, was indicted for intentional homicide”, confirms the public prosecutor of Lille, Carole Étienne. A judicial investigation was therefore opened, and the suspect placed in pre-trial detention in the juvenile section of Longuenesse prison, in Pas-de-Calais. “Investigations into the identity of the suspect are still underway., finally specifies the magistrate. The defendant faces up to 30 years of criminal imprisonment, despite his status as a minor.
