Lille: very upset, they send a salty letter to Santa Claus

The inhabitants of a district of Lille sent a rather salty letter to Santa Claus. They tackle a sensitive subject that makes them furious.

The letter is addressed to Santa Claus but it is actually intended for elected Lille officials. “Thank you to the elected officials of Lille for kindly forwarding my letter to Santa Claus“, beginning the missive, quoted by France Blue North. Signed by the Square collective made up of residents of the Fives district, in Lille, this letter is not candid. No gift listbut very specific demands, including an annual residential parking card. Residents are very upset against the generalization of paid parking in their neighborhood but also in the rest of the northern metropolis. Fives is one of the six districts of Lille where parking will become chargeable in the coming months, indicates the local radio.

This year, I was a real model citizen: I rode my bike, I teleworked a lot and the only days I went to the office, I used public transport. I make sure to only use my car when necessary. At home, the whole family is proud to protect the environment, but don’t blame us if next year we will be using the car from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This will allow us to save the 120 to 300 euros of unspent annual parking subscription in order to meet daily needs. But hello CO2 and fine particles in the air!”can we read in an excerpt from this rather salty letter.

Jacques Richir, deputy mayor of Lille in charge of roads, responded to these disgruntled residents in the same grating tone : “We answer them with our own letter to Santa Claus which consists of saying Santa Claus, we want our children to live in a few years in a world which will have succeeded in controlling global warming, which will have reduced the place of the car in the city, which will mean that the number of cars that enter Lille every day – 100,000 at present – will have greatly decreased, that we will have continued to develop public transport.” But by the way, is there a parking fee for Santa Claus and his sleigh?
