The Limmattalbahn has received approval from the Federal Office of Transport (BAV).
This means that the second part of the route between Schlieren and Killwangen-Spreitbach can also be used from December 11th.
The decision of the Federal Office was the final step towards commissioning.
The conditions for the approval by the BAV were the completion of the construction work and the successful completion of safety tests with Stadtbahn vehicles on the new route, as Limmattalbahn AG writes in a press release.
The Limmattalbahn is a joint project of the cantons of Zurich and Aargau. It is operated by Aargau Verkehr AG. Since 2019, the Stadtbahn has been running between Zurich-Altstetten and Schlieren. From December 11, the route will be over 13 kilometers long. The costs are over 500 million Swiss francs.
Two referendums in the canton of Zurich were necessary for the expansion. The affected district of Dietikon spoke out against the project in the first vote – but was overruled by the rest of the canton.
