I’Lille Academy announced on Wednesday the filing of a complaint after “insults” and “threats” against the staff of the college of Lindsay, a teenager victim of school harassment who committed suicide in Pas-de-Calais. “The rector condemns in the strongest terms the insults, intimidation, calls for hatred, serious threats and failure to respect the right to the image to which the staff of the establishment are subject”, writes the rectorate of the Lille academy in a press release.

“These personnel benefit from the support and protection of the State because of their functions. In this sense, a complaint has been filed, ”he adds. “Threats against them are unacceptable and do not contribute in any way to the fight against this scourge” of school bullying, he insists. The rectorate refused to provide any details on the nature of the facts concerned by this complaint.

Four minors charged

Security around the establishment in question, the Bracke-Desrousseaux college in Vendin-le-Vieil (Pas-de-Calais), has been reinforced, it is underlined in the press release. The mother and stepfather of the girl, who killed himself on May 12 at the age of 13, said they were to meet Brigitte Macron on Wednesday, involved in the issue of harassment.

Received Monday by the Minister of National Education Pap Ndiaye, the family had questioned his sincerity and considered “insufficient” his response against school harassment. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne promised on Tuesday to make “the fight against harassment the absolute priority for the start of the 2023 school year”.

Four minors were indicted in this case for “school harassment leading to suicide” in the context of a judicial investigation opened by the Béthune prosecutor’s office. An adult was indicted for “death threats”. All were placed under judicial control. An administrative investigation has also been opened by the Ministry of National Education. The family, who say they received “no support” during the harassment of Lindsay, filed a complaint against the establishment, the rectorate, the police and Facebook.
