The new version of the custom ROM Lineage OS brings you Android 13 for devices that don’t actually get new Android anymore. The following functions are included.

Every smartphone manufacturer ends update support for their devices at some point. If you still want to use your old phone with newer updates, you need a custom ROM from Android that supports your phone and continues to provide updates. LineageOS is one such ROM that brings you Android 13 to select supported devices.
The official changelog of the operating system lists 51 currently supported devices for version 20. Among them are the Motorola Moto G6 plus, released in 2018, and other older phones, such as the Google Pixel 4a or OnePlus 5.
To install LineageOS 20 on a supported device, you must first root your Android smartphone. To ensure that everything runs as intended, you should also follow the instructions in the wiki for your device. There you can also see again which version your mobile phone would run with. This can be tricky at times, so we advise caution.
LineageOS 20 new features
LineageOS 20 includes the following new features, among others:
- Security patches from April 2022 to December 2022 have been included.
- There’s a new camera app called Aperture.
- A completely redesigned volume panel has been introduced.
- The Gallery app (which is based on a fork of the AOSP gallery) has been fixed and improved.
- The recorder app now supports stereo in WAV format.
- On Android TV, the version has an ad-free launcher and several Google TV features have been ported.
- There is a light mode for the quick settings designed to harmonize with the theme.
- The setup assistant comes with a new design.
- In addition, there are some functions that are interesting for developers, which, among other things, ensure that the operating system is compatible with several systems.
The camera app is now also based on Google’s CameraX software library. The app now supports video frame rate controls, electronic image stabilization and optical stabilization controls, and an orientation angle check feature. In principle, support for auxiliary cameras is now also on board.
