After a few weeks of rumours, Sony has finally officially presented its new active noise reduction wireless headphones, the Sony LinkBuds S. If this name probably rings a bell, it’s that these new true wireless headphones actually come complete a range launched at the beginning of the year with the open Sony LinkBuds.

Unlike the first LinkBuds, the new Sony LinkBuds S are however in-ear headphones which therefore offer silicone tips and passive isolation. Enough to allow the manufacturer to also integrate an active noise reduction feature, in the same way – but not of the same ilk – as the Sony WF-1000XM4. Positioned in the high-end segment, the headphones are also compatible with the LDAC codec in addition to AAC and SBC. They therefore offer a frequency response of 20 to 40,000 Hz and are Hi-Res Audio Wireless certified. Sony is also bouncing back on the announcement of the arrival of Bluetooth LE Audio – with its reduced latency – on Android 13 and promises an update later in the year to actually take advantage of its LinkBuds S.

Headphones much lighter than the Sony WF-1000XM4

But where the LinkBuds S stand out the most from the manufacturer’s previous high-end headphones is in their size. We are indeed entitled here to particularly light headphones, with a weight of 4.8 grams, the lightest on the market for wireless headphones with LDAC compatible noise reduction. Remember also that the weight and the imposing size of the WF-1000XM4 were precisely their main faults.

For the audio formula, Sony has integrated 5 mm transducers into its headphones. They also benefit from 51 mAh batteries providing, according to the manufacturer, up to 6 hours of listening time with noise reduction and 9 hours of listening time without. The case allows you to add an additional 14 hours for a total of 20 hours with noise reduction. About the case, note that it is not compatible with induction charging and therefore cannot be charged wirelessly.

The Sony LinkBuds S will be available in two colors – black or gold – from the end of May, for a price of 199 euros. Until then, you can already consult our test of the Sony LinkBuds S.
