Enedis is warning today against these scammers who pose as its employees with the aim of extracting money by tampering with the Linky meter. Their promise to lure you? Reduce your electricity consumption.
These fake Enedis agents actually indicate that they are able to make modifications deemed “dangerous” by the EDF subsidiary. The people trapped therefore find themselves illegal without even knowing it. In the event of suspicion of fraud or scam, Enedis invites its 37.5 million customers to contact the following number: 09 70 83 19 70.
To avoid being fooled by fake agents, Enedis reminds you that no commercial canvassing is ever carried out and that it does not sell a service or product that modifies the operation of the Linky meter with the aim of reducing electricity consumption. .
The company only intervenes for its installation, troubleshooting if the power has failed, reading the meters, an electrical connection or the commissioning of an electricity contract following the request of a supplier.
Likewise, his colleagues never show up unexpectedly: they leave a calling notice or an appointment is made with the client. Never bring in someone who presents themselves as an Enedis agent.
Up to 10 years in prison and a fine of 1 million euros
In its press release, Enedis recalls that these practices are punishable by very heavy criminal penalties, up to 1 million euros fine and 10 years’ imprisonment for the offense of organized gang fraud, in particular.
These sanctions target both people who modify the Linky meter and customers who use a third party to do so. When such situations are observed, “Enedis systematically files a complaint”.
