The Linky meter has not revealed all its secrets, and it has nothing to do with a so-called hidden camera !
The Linky meter incorporates much more advanced technology than our old electricity meters. In particular, it allows you to potentially adjust your power remotely, which the government is counting on to experiment with limiting the consumption of 200,000 homes this winter. But the potential of this machine can also be exploited by yourself, thanks to a little tip.
An ICT socket under the hood
Did you know, under the hood of your Linky meter, there is the possibility of connecting directly to the flow of information relating to your household’s consumption? If you are curious, all you have to do is unclip the front panel, then look at the bottom right.
What you see is called a “TIC” socket, for “Tele-Information Client”. By plugging in what is called an ERL (Linky Radio Transmitter), you will connect with everything that uses electricity in your home.
Access to the consumption of your devices
You will thus be able to access the real-time consumption of your various connected devices. You will thus be able to detect the devices and uses that consume the most, which will then allow you in the future to plug them in during off-peak hours.
Beyond much finer control of your consumption, an ERL connected to the TIC socket is able to send information to your energy manager, so that it carries out load shedding when devices exceed the subscribed power .
If you wish to acquire an ERL, be aware that many models exist, such as the one developed by Engie in collaboration with Netatmo, and which you can acquire directly on the company’s website.
