Linky: this family has been without electricity for several days after refusing the meter

At the start of the year, a Lorraine family with two children finds itself in the midst of a showdown with Enedis. As they are about to move into their new home, they have refused the installation of their new Linky meter. Unfortunately, they now find themselves without electricity until the dispute is settled.

“I don’t want a connected object that monitors us”, insists Lorraine. With her companion and their two children, the family is currently going through a stormy move. The culprit: the Linky counter, to which the couple fiercely opposes. Enedis nevertheless tried to find a compromise, in particular by proposing to install the device outside the home. But nothing helps. “Enedis is obliged to guarantee us access to electricity”believes Lorraine, who denounces blackmail from the managerespecially in this period of great cold.

According to her, the law is on her side. Indeed, article L322-8 of the energy code stipulates that Enedis is required to “ensure, under objective, transparent and non-discriminatory conditions, access to these networks”. However, the manager defends himself by brandishing on his side article R341-8 which also recalls that“Enedis is required to install a new generation meter for any new connection of a dwelling to the public electricity distribution network”. So, who is right ?

Is the installation of the Linky meter compulsory?

We reported it to you a little earlier this year: no, you are not obliged to accept that Enedis installs a Linky meter in your home. Nevertheless, the manager stresses that the refusal must be ” persistent ” for it to be acted upon. If so, there is a solution. The user will in fact have to pay an annual fee of €61, i.e. a little more than €5 per month. But there again, it is possible to escape this bill.

Indeed, it is possible totake your own meter reading once a year directly on the Enedis site, or failing that, by telephone. It is this reading, usually carried out by a technician, which is invoiced by the manager. By doing it yourself, no invoice, therefore. At least, until 2025: after this time, it will no longer be possible to avoid checkout. For their part, if Lorraine’s family admits that they do not want to settle the case in court, they assure that theywon’t give up.”
