Lipocavitation: what does this slimming technique consist of? : Current Woman Le MAG

Do you want to lose your saddlebags, eradicate your cellulite or (simply) lose weight in your buttocks, thighs, stomach or hips? Consider lipocavitation.

This slimming treatment (which is now offered in most cities in France) constitutes a non-invasive alternative to liposuction: the objective is to reduce localized curves in a painless manner and without the use of a scalpel. We’ll explain it to you.

Lipocavitation: what is it, exactly?

Cavitation is a physical phenomenon which corresponds to the formation of gas micro-bubbles in a liquid due to sudden pressure variations; in water, we can (for example) cause cavitation using ultrasound.

This is the whole principle of lipocavitation: thanks to a special device (which emits waves with a frequency between 38 kHz and 42 kHz), we create small air bubbles inside the body. Under the influence of ultrasound, these bubbles eventually burst, causing the destruction of the wall of the cells which store fat in the body – the adipocytes.

Lipocavitation (as a reminder: the prefix “lipo-” refers to fat) is therefore a slimming treatment which, thanks to ultrasound, allows the removal of fat deposits accumulated in the body.

Result ? Once destocked, these fats are “free” in the body; they are then quickly processed by the liver (that is to say: metabolized) and eliminated by natural pathways.

Lipocavitation: buttocks, thighs, arms, stomach… the areas that can be treated

Lipocavitation allows several things: firstly, a loss of centimeters in the treated area (we can reduce the thigh circumference or the arm circumference, for example), secondly, a reduction in cellulite (the “dark skin” appearance). ‘orange’ gradually disappears) and thirdly, firming of the skin (locally, the skin is more supple, the grain is less visible…).

Here are the areas of the body that can be treated with lipocavitation:

  • The belly,
  • The buttocks,
  • Thighs,
  • The saddlebags,
  • Hips,
  • love handles,
  • The back,
  • Knees,
  • Arms.

And also… Lipocavitation can help in cases of encrusted cellulite and/or in cases of stretch marks, to find firmer and less marked skin.

To note. Lipocavitation is aimed at women as well as men, in order to tackle the small curves of both sexes!

Lipocavitation: what are the contraindications?

Totally painless, lipocavitation does however have some contraindications which must be taken into account: this slimming treatment is therefore not recommended for pregnant women, women during their periods, people with a pacemaker, people who suffer from a problem cardiac and/or circulatory (venous thrombosis, phlebitis, etc.), people who suffer from dermatological problems (irritated skin, dermatosis, recent scars, etc.), people who are taking anticoagulant treatment, women with an IUD , as well as people suffering from cancer.

Lipocavitation: how does a session go?

This slimming treatment is offered in many beauty centers in France. The session lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the establishment. To refine a particular area (for example: the inside of the thighs or the inside of the knees) and obtain visible results, you need at least 3 sessions – and up to 12 sessions in certain aesthetic establishments.

The ultrasound machine is applied to the skin as a massage by the beautician (among other aesthetic professionals); a conductive gel or lotion facilitates its passage. At the end of the lipocavitation session, mechanical lymphatic drainage can be proposed in order to create activation of local microcirculation, and thus facilitate the evacuation of fat through natural pathways.

To note : in addition to a lipocavitation session (and depending on the objective of the person concerned), lipolaser sessions (a cold laser used against cellulite), radiofrequency (a technique which is mainly used to smooth the skin) or further cryolipolysis (destruction of cellulite by cold) can be suggested.

Does lipocavitation help you lose weight?

The results of lipocavitation (smoother and firmer skin, refined area, eradicated cellulite, etc.) are generally visible after a few sessions. But be careful: this slimming treatment in no way replaces the adoption of good lifestyle habits!

To lose weight healthily and maintain a slim figure, it is essential to adopt a healthy and balanced diet (with less sugar, less fat, more fruit and vegetables: a Mediterranean diet, for example) and to practice a regular physical activity (walking, cycling, running, swimming… every day, at least 30 minutes).
