Listen who’s hammering: This is how you make modern vases for your plants

Over the weeks and years, you can accumulate quite a lot of glasses – and then? Use them for your plants! It looks particularly chic in the kitchen.

You need:

  • 4 untreated scraps of wooden board, each 24 cm x 24 cm (e.g. from the hardware store, you can also have them sawn to size)
  • 1-2 old leather or saddle belts
  • Sandpaper (220 grit)
  • Wood wax in white-transparent (e.g. from Clou)
  • Paint brush
  • Leather punch pliers
  • cutter
  • cutting mat
  • triangle ruler
  • 20 screws (here: Ø 3 mm x 16 mm)
  • hand drill
  • floral wire
  • old jam jars

That’s how it’s done:

  1. Finely sand the board edges with sandpaper and apply wood wax with a brush. Let dry. Screw a screw into the wood at a corner (board tip) on the back. Wrap a piece of floral wire around it for hanging.
  2. Cut the leather straps into pieces (here: approx. 28 cm long; the length depends on the circumference of the glass plus a 7 cm edge on the right and left. It is best to place the glass on the wood and wrap the strap tightly with the edges and measure how much belt is needed). Cut the belt to a point on both sides with the cutter. Punch two holes the size of the screws on each side with the punch pliers.
  3. Position the glass in the middle of the board, with the tip of the board pointing upwards. Place the strap tightly around the glass, mark the position of the holes on the board and pre-drill the holes with the hand drill. Use the outer screws to screw the belt onto the wood.
  4. Pass the glass through the strap. Fix the remaining screws so that the glass is firmly in place.
