Third video game part of a saga born in 2017, which offers a dive into childish fears that is both seductive and nightmarish, “Little Nightmares III” reveals itself a little more through a long gameplay sequence.
Released in April 2017, and developed by Swedish indie studio Tarsier, Little Nightmares offered a very seductive and nightmarish dive into childish fears, in a universe located halfway between that of Henry Selick, Coraline’s dad, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, in his City of Lost Children period. With a touch of influence from Roland Topor, for the tortuous design of the creatures that populated the game.
As a reminder, the game placed the player in control of a child named “Six”, dressed in a yellow hooded raincoat hiding her face. Waking up in what seemed to be the bottom of a hold in a place called “The Maw”, – literally “The Maw”, the frail heroine was in fact a prisoner, and had no other weapon than her lighter to enlightenment and ingenuity.
After a sequel released in February 2021, Little Nightmares will soon be enriched with a 3rd part, announced by its publisher Bandai Namco for 2024. Developed by the studio Supermassive Games, to which we notably owe the horrific anthology of Dark Pictures and the friendly The Quarry, Little Nightmares III features two characters, Low and Alone, two friends seeking by all means to escape from “Nowhere”.
Each character carries their own iconic item, a bow and arrows for Low, a wrench for Alone. They will have to use them to solve puzzles and escape.
Publisher Bandai Namco has just revealed a long gameplay sequence for the title, to be discovered below, which takes place in the bowels of a place called Necropolis, emerging from the sands of the desert and powered by gusts of wind… .
For the first time in the franchise, it will be possible to play with a friend in online co-op. Players will be able to play as one of 2 new characters. The game will also be fully playable solo with the AI controlling the second character.
