Germany recorded more than 100,000 new cases of Covid-19 contamination in 24 hours on Wednesday, a record since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, according to data published by health authorities.

Europe’s largest economy recorded 112,323 additional cases and 239 deaths over the past day, said the Robert Koch health watch institute. This is the first time the threshold of 100,000 cases per day has been exceeded since the daily census.

A man stole 42,000 rapid antigen tests from a goods depot in Sydney, Australian authorities said on Wednesday, in a country where such tests are increasingly rare. The thief entered a goods depot in the suburb of Mascot on Tuesday afternoon and “took possession of the tests”, a New South Wales police spokeswoman said, without giving further details.
