Thing promised, thing due. In February 2022, Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeit claimed that their LiveWire brand of electric motorcycles would launch a second model sometime in the second quarter of the year. The company did not have to be asked and joined the action and the word in this month of May.

Here is the LiveWire S2 Del Mar, the second electric motorcycle in the catalog after the LiveWire One, available on the market since 2021. This new trendy bike seeks to make itself more accessible thanks to a more affordable price, to the detriment of slightly lower performance.

Lighter, but very efficient

As explained Electrek, this LiveWire S2 Del Mar is 20% less powerful than its big sister, in view of the 80 horsepower (about 60 kW) offered by the engine. Also, its empty weight is 25% lighter than the LiveWire One: 190 kg. However, its acceleration should still appeal to thrill seekers.

Indeed, this two-wheeler would be able to shoot down the 0 to 100 km / h in the space of 3.5 seconds only. Regarding its autonomy, the brand does not communicate the capacity of the battery, but opts for an urban estimate of 160 kilometers. That is, on highways and at high speeds, this figure should drop significantly.

For this model, LiveWire has equipped itself with a brand new modular platform called Arrow: the battery is the main element of the chassis, like a structural base where the other components of the vehicle are fixed (engine, electronics, steering tube , swingarm, etc.). One way, in particular, to optimize its weight.

This technical base will be used for other electric models of the brand, which will join the offer over the next few years. This LiveWire S2 Del Mar also features built-in GPS and cellular connectivity to provide remote software updates.

Price and availability

In terms of prices, this electric motorcycle will target a price of around 15,000 dollars (around 14,200 euros), for availability in the second quarter of 2023. Obviously, and still according to Electrek, Harley-Davidson has not yet decided on a fixed price, which could therefore evolve between now and its release. Above all, French prices should rise with the various taxes.

An introductory edition will also be available at a suggested retail price of $17,699 (around 16,780 euros) in Jasper Gray or Comet Indigo colors.
