LNG imports from the USA to the EU increase methane emissions

Russian natural gas is to be replaced by liquid gas from the USA and Israel. However, when it is transported, the greenhouse gas methane is released into the atmosphere in larger quantities than previously thought.

Liquid natural gas from the USA has been particularly popular since Joe Biden and Ursula von der Leyen sealed the “gas deal”. With his help, Europe wants to free itself from the Russian gas drip as quickly as possible. That is why the USA is increasing its exports to the EU by 68 percent this year. Israel and Egypt are also to supply more natural gas to the EU in the future. Although this covers a tenth of the natural gas requirement, it also jeopardizes climate protection plans.
