Local confinement, vaccination… The new announcements of Jean Castex: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

When can we (finally) hope for a reduction in health measures? This is the question that the whole of France has been asking itself for a year. And obviously, it will not be for now. As every week, Jean Castex and Olivier Véran took their places in front of the cameras, Thursday March 4, 2021 at 6 p.m., to give a press conference on the evolution of the health situation. The Prime Minister again confirmed that “the circulation of the virus continued to progress ” in the country over the past fortnight, especially because of the spread of the British variant, which now accounts for more than 60% of contaminations. However, he wanted to reassure – if at all possible – explaining that France “is not faced, at this stage, with an exponential increase in the epidemic ".

Pas-de-Calais confined at weekends, vaccination possible in pharmacies

Jean Castex announced new measures concerning the territories with the highest incidence rate. In addition to the twenty already placed “under enhanced surveillance ”, three new departments are added: Hautes-Alpes, Aisne and Aube. In all of these twenty-three departments, shopping centers of more than 10,000 m2 will close their doors. Wearing a mask is also becoming compulsory in all urban areas. The Prime Minister also confirmed the decision to impose local containment in Pas-de-Calais. This will therefore apply from Saturday at 8 a.m. until Sunday at 6 p.m. In addition, non-food supermarkets of more than 5,000 m2 will now be closed.

Of course, Emmanuel Macron's right-hand man also returned to the vaccination campaign … far too slow in the eyes of some. So the government has decided to give it a little boost. From now on, "from the week of March 15 for those over 50 at risk ”, it will be possible to get vaccinated in pharmacies. Significant deliveries of the product are therefore expected over the weekend, particularly in the Paris region. Regarding the vaccination schedule, Jean Castex predicts that 20 million people will have received the two doses by mid-May, and 30 million by the summer. For his part, the Minister of Health is betting on “nine million French ” who will have received “At least one dose” at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

Internet users annoyed by weekly press conferences

On social networks, they were still numerous to react to these announcements. The hashtag # Castex18h quickly made it into the Top Tweets of the evening. And without much surprise, Internet users were particularly annoyed. Many felt that the Prime Minister had (once again) spoken to say nothing … and no longer even saw the point of following his famous weekly press conferences. "Waste of time", "They don't teach us anything anymore”,“ It's time for Castex weather ”,“ Did anyone have the courage to listen? ”,“ Castex is the kind of guy who didn't prepare his presentation during the day J ”,“ Besides the fact that this press conference did not bring us anything, Jean Castex and Olivier Véran played a totally offbeat role. This meeting will appear objectively ridiculous in a few weeks ”,“So I missed tonight's episode, did the writers manage to breathe life into the show or are we still pissed off?"," Since October the speech has been the same, just the words that change, y'all are fed up ** "," Ah but tonight was a new point, I thought it was last week's replay, we have to innovate, can we read among the hundreds of messages on Twitter.

However, some found something to take away from this speech: Jean Castex’s “middle finger”. As he had already done on several occasions during his press conferences, and also on the set of the JT of TF1, the Prime Minister has indeed enumerated the measures while counting on his fingers… and while making a long pause on the middle finger. A detail that of course jumped out in the eyes of Twittos.
