There is something magical about the last hours of the year for most people. There will be celebrations on this evening – in a wide variety of ways – after all, the new year should be welcomed in a fitting manner. We have selected five places all over the country where you can start the new year with good prospects.

1. Rügen: Beach chair New Year’s Eve and Medieval Festival

A real hit – New Year’s Eve by the sea, on Germany’s island of superlatives. Rügen is the largest island in Germany, has the oldest lighthouse, the most beautiful pier on the Baltic Sea coast, a rugged chalk coast with bizarre formations and more than 80 kilometers of sandy and natural beaches.

On the last day of 2022, a medieval spectacle will take place on the beach of Göhren – with fire shows, trickery, handicraft demonstrations, a market, music and fireworks. Those who like it more comfortable can snuggle up in one of the beach chairs, listen to the splashing of the Baltic Sea and the hits that resound from the beach promenade. For party animals there is a big New Year’s Eve party with the motto “Pirates conquer Göhren”, which is crowned by fireworks over the pier at midnight.

2. Berlin: The largest New Year’s Eve event in the republic

New concept for the country’s largest New Year’s Eve party: “Celebrate at the Gate” is the name of the festival in Berlin, which this year is not taking place on Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column, but directly on Pariser Platz. The line-up includes internationally renowned artists such as the Scorpions, Alphaville, Calum Scott, Sasha and Kamrad, as well as , DJ Bobo, Münchner Freiheit, Malik Harris, Laurell, YouNotUs, Jupiter Jones and Alex Christensen.

If you don’t get any of the limited tickets, you can at least celebrate with the live broadcast on ZDF. In Berlin, however, there are many other New Year’s events such as at the Europa Center as part of the Christmas market or at the Berlin Memorial Church. This is where the biggest fireworks are set off.

3. Cologne: Celebrate with cheerful people from the Rhineland

Anyone who thinks that the post office only goes off at carnival in Cologne is wrong. Because in the cathedral city on the Rhine, all hell breaks loose even at the turn of the year, after all, people like it sociable here. For example at the Christmas market. This is also open on New Year’s Eve and offers hut magic in a family-friendly environment – with hits from the 80s and 90s. The selection of music in “Building 9” in Cologne-Deutz goes even further back in time. Here you can celebrate in retro style on two floors with soul hits and song legends.

The party location “Halle Tor 2” has a lot on offer for younger tastes in music: Electro, R’n’B and Urban. Highlight in the huge club: The roof is opened at midnight for the best view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks. The midnight sky, illuminated by colorful fireworks, can also be admired in the “Stadtgarten” – from the in-house beer garden. There is also dancing to Hip Hop, Reggae and House.

4. Lake Constance: Golden night on the lover’s ship

Do you want the start of the new year to begin quite romantically this time? Then our suggestion would be: a dinner trip by ship across Lake Constance. What does ship mean here? The MS Schwaben is a very special example. Built in 1937 and redesigned four years ago in the Art Deco style – with blue velvet, mustard yellow tones and a modern lighting concept.

The two-hour round trip on New Year’s Eve starts at 7 p.m. in Konstanz under the motto “Golden Twenties”. The program on board includes a welcome drink, a four-course gourmet menu and live music – until 3 a.m.

5. Chiemgau: New Year’s Eve dinner on the Kampenwand

Glide into the New Year at an altitude of 1500 meters: The Kampenwand in Aschau in Upper Bavaria, very close to Lake Chiemsee, is a very special mountain due to its striking appearance. The jagged, rocky summit ridge reminds some of a dragon’s body, others of a Hahnenkamm – and spreads a little Dolomite atmosphere in the Chiemgau Alps.

Around 200 meters below the summit is the SonnenAlm, which offers a fantastic panoramic view of Lake Chiemsee on one side and the Austrian Alps on the other. Two dinners will be held here on the last evening of 2022. One for couples and one for party people with live music. Anyone who no longer dares to descend after the party can either spend the night on the alp or take a special trip with the nostalgic gondola lift at 1.30 a.m. back down to the valley.
