Green ministers attack traffic lights at Corona
When the traffic light parties decide to let the corona emergency run out, the situation is not yet so dramatic. In view of the steep infection rates, resistance is stirring within our own ranks. The federal states do not want the federal government to ban lockdowns.
There is also massive resistance against the corona course of the traffic light parties SPD, FDP and Greens in the countries. Three health ministers of the Greens criticized the fact that the SPD, Greens and FDP in the federal government want to let the exceptional corona situation expire on November 25th. “In view of the current infection dynamics and the burden on hospitals, which in some regions are already on the verge of absolute overload, the epidemic situation of national scope should be prolonged,” said Manfred Lucha (Baden-Württemberg), Ursula, in a joint statement Nonnemacher (Brandenburg) and Kai Klose (Hesse).
With regard to the majority of the three traffic light parties in the Bundestag, the statement by the three ministers goes on to say: “If there is no majority in the Bundestag for this, we federal states need legal possibilities to be able to decide on further measures in an emergency.” This must be ensured, for example, with a country opening clause or the clarification that the measures listed by the traffic light are not exhaustive.
Countries want more leeway
In contrast, the SPD, Greens and FDP in the federal government want to deprive the federal states of the right to be able to impose lockdowns, school closings and curfews in the corona pandemic. On the other hand, the Greens ministers are now storming: “Excluding possible necessary instruments does not do justice to the situation,” criticized the trio.
The Union and several other federal states are also calling for the epidemic situation to be extended in view of the rapidly increasing corona numbers. With this instrument, which the Bundestag has to decide, the Ministry of Health can more easily issue corona ordinances. The Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann of the Greens, told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung: “The measures previously defined in the law are not sufficient.” He wanted more leeway for the countries.
