(CercleFinance.com) – Lockheed Martin announces that it has delivered a 60kW high-energy laser with integrated optical glare and surveillance (HELIOS) to the United States Navy.
It is the first tactical laser weapon system to be integrated into existing ships. This integrated and scalable system must provide tactically relevant combat capability as a key element of a layered defense architecture, the company assures.
“HELIOS improves the overall effectiveness of the ship’s combat system to deter future threats and provide additional protection to sailors,” summarizes Rick Cordaro, vice president at Lockheed Martin Advanced Product Solutions.
