(CercleFinance.com) – Lockheed Martin and Sintavia today announced a collaboration to expand research into the possibilities of additive manufacturing (AM) of metals as an alternative to castings and forgings.
AM, also known as 3D printing, has the ability to improve the efficiency of existing casting and forging supply chains, and deliver parts with a higher level of detail and larger design possibilities.
Sintavia is an AM supplier for Lockheed Martin, supporting several additive metal parts manufacturing and production programs. This new collaboration will explore other areas of AM, including laser powder bed fusion, electron beam directed energy deposition, and friction stir AM.
This enhanced relationship builds on the White House ‘AM Forward’ initiative, announced by President Joe Biden in May, a voluntary pact to strengthen America’s supply chains by supporting the adoption and deployment of the ‘am by US-based vendors.
