A week after the death of Elizabeth II, tributes are going well across the Channel and beyond. In Stafford, in the North Midlands, a knitting club has used its know-how to participate in this national tribute.

Lynn, one of the inhabitants of Stafford and member of the club in question, puts on a funny sculpture in multicolored wool, decorated with hearts and black ribbons, on her mailbox. An original confection, with the effigy of the queen, designed in this knitting club. “You have the crown and on that side, a heart in royal purple with the dates of our beautiful queen embroidered. And finally, our Paddington bear with his flag!”, She shows.

The club meets every Tuesday evening in this living room to knit.

After hearing the news of the Queen’s passing, Lynn didn’t hesitate for a second before pulling out her needles. “I immediately called my friends telling them that it would be nice to do a tribute. I invited them to my house and we immediately started knitting multicolored wreaths,” she admits.

Knitting all weekend to equip the whole city

The mailbox covers have been placed at strategic locations in the city so that as many people as possible can fall on them and that the queen is never forgotten. “People passing by or sending a letter will make them think of the Queen. I’ve known the Queen all my life, but I have a 3-year-old little girl and I want her to remember the queen too, in a bit of a quirky way,” says Lynn.

The club plans to knit all weekend in order to install these mailbox covers all over the city for the funeral of the Elizabeth II which will be held on Monday.
