Logbook day 9 – Death of Elizabeth II: in Chester, a cafe is preparing for the funeral

In front of the Storyhouse coffee counter, two large screens have been installed, as well as dozens of tables, chairs and armchairs. Objective: The goal is to make the atmosphere as warm as possible for the broadcast of the funeral. “There will be no seating restrictions, so people can come and go as they please. We will also serve free tea or coffee. The idea is that people feel comfortable here,” explains Nancy Davies, communications manager. A way, according to her, to face the news together.

“Thank you madam” can we read on the front of the café-bookstore.

“It’s a historical element, it seemed essential to us to broadcast it. Also for those who are sad or alone, perhaps elderly people who don’t want to watch it alone, they can come here to be surrounded by other people.”

“Mark of respect”

Aubrey and her friends have already planned to go there. The young English girls wouldn’t miss this moment for the world. “We’re going to come and watch, for sure. With our families. It’s a mark of respect for the queen. She’s been an incredible woman, a brilliant queen, everything we dreamed of. All my life, I don’t I knew that she…”

After the funeral, the group also plans to meet to raise their glasses in honor of their sovereign.
