It has already been several years since Logitech introduced its MX Keys keyboard to the market, which has since been considered one of the best desktop models, alongside the MX Master and Anywhere series of mice, the third iteration of which was released in 2020. After a long time, the manufacturer breaks its silence by announcing the MX Anywhere 3S and MX Keys S.
Do not expect a revolution: these are not real new models, but improvements made in small touches. We can understand this approach to the brand, because these products are already very successful and an adage prevails: “Why change a winning team?”
Small new features on the mouse and MX keyboard side
Following in the footsteps of the MX Master 3, renewed last year with the S model, the MX Anywhere benefits from more or less the same improvements. It thus presents a new white color in addition to the dark gray version, silent buttons that will delight your office colleagues, as well as a sensor with an increased resolution of 8000 dpi, useful for configurations with several screens. In addition, the mouse now incorporates recycled plastic (70%), at least for the black model. Unfortunately, this proportion is lower for the white version due to technical constraints.
The MX Keys, a great wireless keyboard that ticks almost all the boxes, hasn’t had any big changes from Logitech, which is why it’s an “S” version and not a an MX Keys 2. The design remains the same, except for a few more modern keyboard keys that are appearing: an emoji key, a speak to text and an mute to quickly mute the microphone. In addition, the color pale gray (white) makes its entry for those who wish to complete a clear set-up. A small software feature has also been added to Logi Options+ for automatic management of backlight duration. A welcome adjustment, because we criticized this too short duration during our initial test, even if it obviously saves battery power. However, a problem arises: this setting will only be available on the MX Keys S and not on the previous generation, which is a shame…
Smart Actions, new shortcuts designed for productivity
Speaking of software, Logitech is introducing a very cool new feature called Smart Actions, available for all MX products — and even others — that work with Logi Options+. This feature allows you to perform a series of actions with a single click. For example, if you are used to opening Chrome, a specific site, your weather app and then Word every time you turn on your computer, you can now create a chain of actions that activate one after the other. using a single shortcut (either on your keyboard or mouse).
You can set as many actions as you want and some software, especially those from the Adobe suite, are perfectly compatible. You can then apply sequences of actions that you use frequently in software such as Photoshop or Lightroom. For example, you can open a new file, apply a preset, crop to 16:9 aspect ratio, apply grain, and more, all with one button. The customization possibilities are almost endless, and it can come in very handy on a day-to-day basis, saving you time and avoiding repetitive tasks.
Finally, Logitech will offer for the first time an MX Combo pack including the MX Keys S keyboard, an adapted palm rest and the MX Master 3S mouse, all at a price of 219 €. The MX Keys S keyboard will be available on its own for €119, while the MX Anywhere 3S mouse will be sold for €99.
