LoL: A drama evening that ends in Big L for Ocelote and G2

Today on the networks, many esports players have written about it. Between the apologies of some on behalf of their president and the condemnations of others, it doesn’t take a genius to understand thatOcelote made a mistake. For those who haven’t followed the case, we have to go back a bit and recontextualize what happened.

It all started with a party video shared by Ocelote on the networks. He is seen partying and drinking in a bar that looks particularly swanky, evidenced by the candles and what appears to be champagne. It is not because of the alcoholic drinks or the abundance displayed that Ocelote created the controversy. We can party everywhere, but not with anyone… The presence of the brothers Tate (Simon and especially Andrew) triggered a wave of strong reactions. On a personal level, we did not particularly know these two figures, from combat sports. But by digging a little, we understand I’excitement. We therefore allow ourselves to leave a little message to Ocelote, even if at MGG we are above all randoms for him : “Big L Carlos, do better“.

It’s not too late to blame alcohol…

Andrew Tate, a person to blacklist?

Andrew Tate is a former American-British kickboxer, who since the end of his sports career, has turned into an influencer on the networks. We don’t know if he received too many blows during his fights or if he likes to do the buzz, but he has been caught on numerous occasions following problematic attitudes, which has also earned him banishment from several platforms for more or less long periods of time. For those who want to immerse themselves in the reality of this more than borderline character, we advise you to read the article by Guardian. But long story short, he’s openly misogynistic and sexist. In 2022, mentalities are changing, but some are still having a little trouble evolving… If the natural selection is not able to do its job, it is up to the esports community to take responsibility and blacklist this type of person.

Maybe we’re going a little too hard? To better understand the character, here is a small collection of the problematic positions of Andrew Tate:

  • A woman’s place is at home
  • Women can’t drive
  • Women are properties that belong to men
  • Andrew Tate legitimized domestic violence
  • Andrew Tate has numerous charges of rape and sexual harassment chasing him.

So, even if Ocelote is known to be a master communicator, we don’t see how he could defend his “evening colleague”… and yet, the boss of the Samurai tried.

Ocelote, a catastrophic communication?

There are countless esports players who have castigated carlos to appear with such a problematic personality. Ashley Kang, Caedrel, Trevor Henry… the list is long and G2 should perhaps be questioned. The worst thing about this story is that Ocelote tried to defend himself on the networks, indicating that he had the right to party with whoever he heard and that he would not let anyone dictate his behavior. . That’s true to himself, but that doesn’t mean he’s right. It sinks even further into the drama and while Riot Games (Valorant, League of Legends) boasts of being an inclusive and respectful company, we hope that an official reaction will come. G2 is one of the most famous teams on these two games and serves as an example to many… until last night.

Even within G2, the pill seems to have trouble passing. Several people linked to the structure took the floor to express their distress and apologize… For Ocelote, it is therefore a Big L and G2 stands to lose fans and talent for good reason. The situation is all the more laughable, as G2 has several women’s teams like G2 Gozen and G2 Hel which has only just been formalized. As an esports fan, we inevitably feel a little betrayed and we strongly condemn Andrew Tate’s sexist speeches.

In League of Legends, what makes a good nickname? There really isn’t a right answer and it’s mostly a matter of taste. But there is still one criterion in particular that affects us: the origin of the chosen name. To celebrate the Worlds, here is our selection of the best nicknames!
