LoL: A humanitarian donation of several million for Riot Games?

How much money have you spent on League of Legends? Whatever your level or your material situation, the answer is surely the same for everyone: too much! Even if Riot Games’ MOBA is free-to-play, many players are cracking up to buy Riot Points, which allow them to unlock skins and other cosmetics. You can obviously receive this type of product for free with the Hextech store. But it takes time and the results are hit or miss…not ideal for getting your dream skin.

Some find microtransactions to be unhealthy, especially because they incite players, often young, to consumption. But the system is also capable of good things. Riot Games has indeed promised to donate the money generated by a skin to its Social Impact Fund. Some will say it’s a very small detail, but the last time this video game giant took this initiative, it still collected more than $7 million !

What is the Riot Games Social Impact Fund?

the Riot Games Social Impact Fund was created in 2019. Its goal is simple: to support global organizations in their fight to make the world a better place. It allows Riot Games to more readably invest in causes, while allowing members of its large community to participate through it. Obviously, there are ties to Riot Games, but this fund is independent of the development and publishing entities. 4 main objectives were put forward during its creation:

  • Education
  • The citizenship
  • The equality of chances
  • Sustainable development

Overall, Riot Games likes to take positions. Every year, the company makes a large donation to the Z-Event and on several occasions she has spoken out in defense of the rights of the community LGBTQ+. This time it’s the sales of the T skinaliyah star guardian which will be used to finance a good cause.

How much will Star Guardian Taliyah make?

It is impossible to answer this question precisely. The Star Guardian skin line is popular within the community and already has quite a few members (Lux, Poppy, Janna…). Riot Games recently decided to add new members (Kai’Sa, Ekko, Fiddlesticks…). The more we are, the more we laugh, another skin was announced today: Taliyah Guardian of the Stars. This will have a particularity: the income generated by the skin between the July 28 and August 29 will be donated in full to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. Some would have liked this initiative to cover all skins… but it’s still better than nothing.

Above all, the last time this type of initiative had been taken, Riot had casually collected a very nice sum! With Ornn Elderwood, she had indeed raised more than 7 million dollars (2021). It was even more than with Dawnbringer Karma. We can therefore expect more or less similar sums for Taliyah star guardianespecially since this mage has returned to the metagame, both in midlane and in the jungle.

Star Guardians are making a comeback in League of Legends. Riot Games has a major event in store for us – an event which of course will bring with it a plethora of new skins from the theme.
