The champion’s butterfly or stingray form perfectly matches the teaser shown by Riot Games in 2013. Players were thrilled and celebrated as they saw their hypothesis come to fruition. We can even assume that the first Bel’Veth skin will be on Viktor’s Prototypes skin, just to close the loop.
Besides the appearance of this image in the callback animation of the creator Viktor skin, there were two other occasions where Riot Games wanted to bring this mystery to life. The Proto Vel’Koz cosmetic featured the same silhouette in 2014, and the developers insisted on this shape after the Urgot redesign that took place in 2017. A recurrence that can be found in the new version of the Proto Urgot skin — from many players have rightly assumed that this was no coincidence and that it did mean something. A situation which, with the release of Bel’Veth, seems to be fully confirmed.
Along with these teasers of Bel’Veth in different illustrations, the silence of Riot Games has helped to maintain certain hopes. When something becomes irrelevant, developers often share it with the community as an anecdote. We’ve seen it with canceled champions or removed abilities. With these teasers, however, they decided to keep it a secret for too long. Company employees simply ignored community feedback on the matter.
When we first saw this theory, we thought it was odd that Riot Games would choose such an early teaser and preferred to think it was about the possible canceled Anivia skin. However, we can only be happy that the developers have decided to pursue one of the most mysterious storylines for the League of Legends community, almost 10 years after its original release. A situation that makes the arrival of Bel’Veth in the game all the more special.
With the theory confirmed, there is no doubt that we will finally have answers about what happened to the Empress of the Void but also what is her relationship with Viktor. What is certain is that it is not known what cosmetics will arrive in League of Legends in the near future, nor what will be the launch skin for the new champion.
