On earth, the most popular sport, the one which is in any case the most publicized, is football. In the sphere of esports, there will inevitably be debate. But League of Legends seems to be a tough customer to budge. A few days ago, we had the right to a tasty meeting between two giants: one from the round ball and the other from the MOBA of Riot Games. The two are Koreans and they performed a little jersey swapping ceremony.
We obviously want to talk about the GOAT Faker (T1) and the star striker of Tottenham Hotspur Heung Min Son. On Twitter, which is not the main network in South Korea, they have 498,000 and 352,000 followers respectively.
Two jewels of South Korea
Both Faker and Heung-Min Son are South Korean gems. As a good esports fan, you shouldn’t have too much trouble placing the T1 midlaner. Three-time League of Legends world champion (2013, 2015 and 2016), he also holds 2 MSI and numerous South Korean (LCK) championship titles. He breaks records one after another, both individual and collective, and this is the GOAT of the game.
Those who don’t follow football competitions too much may be a little less familiar with the footballer. Heung-Min Son is however a real diamond, whether in club or national team. He has gleaned many individual accolades during his career. Very versatile, he has been named his team’s best player at Tottenham 3 times (2019, 2020 and 2022), which is a small feat when you have to compete with Hary Kane, one of the darlings of the English public. Very elegant on the pitch, he also received numerous awards for his goals. But if “Sunny“Is adored by Tottenham fans, he is even more loved by Korean fans during international matches. He already has more than 100 caps with his country (33 goals) and he notably won the Asian Games in 2018… thereby gaining an exemption from compulsory military service.
Who is the other’s fan?
It’s hard to know who is more popular between Faker and Heung-Min Son. But on Instagram, T1 players like Zeus and Gumayusi proudly displayed their snaps with the footballer. They are still young and for them, the question does not really arise. Even if we love League of Legends, football remains much more watched and affects all generations above all.
For the record, during an interview in 2021, the captain of the South Korean team admitted to playing MOBA when he had free time. We don’t know if he was particularly well ranked, but this kind of wink is always a pleasure. It’s also not the first time he’s done a project with Faker. In 2020, the two had shot a commercial for the Xbox Game Pass.
