LoL: Has the Cho’Gath rework been teased in the new TFT set?

The end of the season is coming to League of Legends and, apart from the preseason, the game will not experience any real novelty between now and 2023. K’Santé is and will remain the last champion of the year and no major overhaul is expected for several months. Even that of Aurelion Sol has been pushed back by the developers who want a spectacular rendering for the Star Forger. However, this does not mean that the developers will rest. As of now, in addition to polishing the preseason, they are already working on their projects for the next season. New champions, skins and more, their goal will be to do even better in season 13.

One of their future project would have already leaked, a rework concerning one of the oldest champions in League of Legends: Cho’Gath, the Black Terror.

A clue in the teaser of the future set of TFT

Teamfight Tactics, Riot Games’ autobattler, is about to receive a new set called Attack of the Monsters. The studio presented the new features to come via a video in which we can see several concepts and visuals. One of them represents Cho’Gath, yes, but with a different appearance than what we know on the MOBA. A legitimate question then arises: is this a change unique to TFT or is Riot Games planning to modify the Black Terror on the MOBA as well?

Furthermore, this visual echoes a look created by an artist named Taylor Jansen a few years ago and who has since joined Riot Games as a concept artist. Many therefore saw it as a first hint of a champion overhaul. If the information ignited the community, Taylor Jansen denied the rumor shortly after: “I’m flattered that another Riot concept artist was inspired by my design, but as far as I know there are no plans to use it for any future content. I know a lot of people are disappointed, but don’t worry, one day, when the time comes, it might be even better and with even more teeth!”

According to him, nothing is currently planned regarding Cho’Gath, but we can assume that if it was, he probably wouldn’t be allowed to talk about it. However, there is hope. After all, this isn’t the first time a redesign has been teased via TFT. In September 2021, Caitlyn had the right to a more dressed version on the autobattler, version which had finally arrived on the MOBA via a graphic overhaul of the champion.

So simple coincidence, or future Riot project? Only time will tell, but if we trust the plan of the studio which is to chain the revamps on its oldest champions, Cho’Gath seems to be the ideal candidate. The Black Terror was released at the very start of the game, and some of its appearances just aren’t up to the quality standards the studio demanded anymore. We can therefore hope that, even if it is not a total overhaul, Riot Games plans to give it a well-deserved little makeover.

League of Legends’ newest champion already seems to have some balancing issues. Contrary to the reputation that newcomers to Summoner’s Rift generally have, he is very far from being OP.
