LoL: Is AFK player detection too fast?


One of most anticipated features of League of Legends Season 13 was arguably the new AFK player detection. Why are AFKs detected in training mode?

Even though no manager has spoken yet about this, many players have theorized that this feature was there for fight against some bot which remain afk in this mode, for the sole purpose of overloading the servers. Although this reason seems perfectly valid, several doubts have been expressed as to its relevance. Code a bot who would just random moves would not be much more complicated, and in the end it risks more to annoy players than to fight bots effectively. One of the solutions could be to reset this timer to a longer duration in training modein order to let players breathe, if at all possible with the League of Legends code.

Too fast detection even for classic games?

The new detection also hinders a minority of players in PvP game : hands Teemo. The latter are accustomed at the start of the game, to stand still in a place to take advantage of their liabilities which makes them invisible. They therefore sometimes trigger the AFK alert, while they are in front of their PC. It seems the best way to avoid this without breaking their invisibility either drop a random ping, just to show the game that there is indeed a player behind the screen.
