LoL: Is the LCS dying like Doublelift thinks?

After participating in a showmatch organized between streamers by content creator Mr Beast, Double lift had stated that Bjergsenwho is still a professional player, could not participate due to Riot Games rules, which prohibits a pro from participating in a match not approved by the publisher. The former champion had chained on a American studio reviewbelieving that the LCS is in the process of die. The League of Legends publisher has not enjoyed this outing, and banned him from restreaming the LCS, a privilege he was one of the few streamers to have. However some figures seem to give raison to the old ADC.

Worrying statistics?

If we can estimate that Doublelift exaggeratedwhere he was saltier than usualeven that he just tried to make the buzzone thing remains certain: the audience figures don’t lie. The number of viewers in front of the North American championship continues to to lowerto the point of having been outmoded during this Summer Split by CBLoL hearings (the Brazilian competition), which is a first in history competition in League of Legends.

S stands for Split, S1 stands for Spring Split and S2 stands for Summer Split.

Looking at the table, we realize that indeed the LCS ratings appear to be plummeting. Between Summer 2020 and Summer 2022, the latter have down more than 50%. However, this decline is far from being exclusive to North Americaand it is a tendency that can be observed in most League of Legends competitions. Although the fall is obvious, it should also be kept in mind that these figures are far from catastrophicand that many publishers would be satisfied with it.

The reasons behind this decline

Already the figures for the Summer Split 2022 must be nuanced. All others take into account regional finals, which have not yet taken place for this segment. Nevertheless, the drop between the Spring Split 2021 and the Spring Split 2022 remains realeven though less alarming. The LCK and LFL have even increased their average number of spectatorseven if these two championships are exceptions.

According to Tyler1another streamer from the United States, this drop is mainly explained by the fact that the current meta is “boring like the rain. Not only is the level of the LCS incredibly low, but since nothing is happening, the commentators feel compelled to fill in their life stories that nobody cares about.“If one can criticize the form of the message, the substance is not necessarily false. games are generally longer this Summer Split, while the kill average is down, even comparing it to that of other Summer Splits (and therefore at a time when players are expected to master the mechanics of the current season and play more macro). This is not likely to work out for the last week of competition, because only three teams can still take last qualifying spot in the LCS playoffs (and this figure could be reduced depending on the results of this night). Fortunately the LEC not to complain, with 8 teams competing for the last 5 places.

A new bug occurred during the match between DRX and NS RedForce. If its origin is currently unknown, the first suspicions seem to point to a buggy rune for a few weeks.
