LoL – Preseason 2023: An update of the communication systems and the vision

Riot Games delighted us this week with its first announcements for the 2023 League of Legends preseason. In particular, we learned the name of the next champion, K’Sante – a tank that will be played on the top lane – but also information on the next characters to arrive in Summoner’s Rift, revelations on the changes to come in the jungle, but not only.

For season 13, Riot Games also wants to tackle in-game communication and vision, two points that the studio wants to improve. Changes of lesser importance, for a preseason which promises to be rather calm.

Improved systems

Similar to last year, Riot Games plans to make more specific changes across multiple systems. The long-term goal is to bring the elements of the game up to date before doing any updates of the magnitude of Runes Reforged, Elemental Rift, or items.

For this preseason, Riot Games therefore plans to update the systems including communication and vision, which will make the jungle even more thrilling and accessible, but not only since many changes are also planned specifically for this position, and that a old enemy will make his return from the side of the river.

According to Riot Games, and we can only agree, the communication system is starting to get stale, especially compared to other of his games. New features will therefore be added to League of Legends, features that will make it easier to communicate with your team so that you can win.

The in-game ping system will be improved. Whereas with the current system, you can only do basic communications, so Riot Games wants to make your communications clearer. The new pings will combine what we already know, but above all there will be more options available such as improved vision and a ping to attack. The studio is also thinking of ways to highlight pings with your teammates, to develop your macro-strategy to win objectives and to know where the pings are on the map, even if they do not appear on your screen.

League of Legends

In addition to changes to communication, Riot Games is reviewing small improvements to the vision system, since it is a bit outdated. The trinket swap is not clear enough and how to use them optimally is even less so. The studio therefore seeks to make them more intuitive. New indicators – as you can see above – will allow you to better place your beacons but also to know at the moment you place one how many you have already dispatched on the map.

Riot Games has yet to announce the start dates for the preseason, but it should start as usual after Worlds. Other changes are probably to be expected, changes that the studio should reveal very soon.

Outside of champion and rework announcements, Riot Games has teased its first plans for League of Legends’ 2023 preseason. We already knew that the jungle would be at the heart of the studio’s concerns, which revealed new changes to come for this very special position.
