Even though Riot Games had to release an emergency patch to reduce its power, the arrival of Renata Glasc on League of Legends was one of the most appreciated by the community. Besides its interesting gameplay, it was the details related to the launch of the character that won unanimous support within the community. A particular case is that of her launch skin, which was very appreciated because it does not belong to an existing cosmetic line but which above all corresponds perfectly to the personality of the champion. However, Riot Games considered other possibilities for its very first skin.
Renata Glasc’s canceled skins
In addition to the Admiral aspect, which was ultimately chosen by Riot Games, two other alternatives were considered. On the one hand, it was considered to integrate it into the line of skins pulse fire, characterized by a slightly more futuristic vision. On the other hand, the developers considered the option of creating a Demonic themed skin (Teemo Imp, Tristana Imp, etc.). This latest line of skins is one of the most popular in League of Legends and was discontinued for a while, but in the end it’s not the one the developers went for.
This artistic element was not the only one that could have been different in Renata Glasc. Riot Games artists test everything to the smallest detail. We are talking here about the weapon of the champion which is linked to her source of power. Instead of the staff we now have in game, several options have been considered such as a techno-chemical sword, a staff with techno-chemical reservoirs or even one with a very rounded shape at its top.
This was the most problematic element for the developers since the character had very different spells. In fact, in her final version, she uses various elements to attack: a gun, her arm, a drone or chemical bottles.
Same colors are subject to experimentation and, in this case, an alternate version of Renata Glasc was tested to see “what was it like” in a radically different color palette.
All sketches and ideas were shared by Sunny Pandita, a Riot Games concept artist who worked on the design for Renata Glasc and other League of Legends champions. You can follow her on his Art Station profile.
