In recent years, Riot Games has multiplied the announcements. Between Project A, which has become VALORANT, Project L, which is gradually being revealed, in particular with the presentation of a new character recently, but also an MMO, announced in November 2020, the studio is working on several major productions, but this does not mean that the information is flowing, especially for the massively multiplayer game.
An announcement to avoid leaks
To reassure players, in particular, Riot Games has therefore explained why this game was announced so early in its production phase. The answer is quite simple: to avoid different leaks. As you know, leaks are legion in the video game industry, so that’s why the studio took the lead, to “announce” its project itself, although it was done via a simple tweet, in order to remain quite discreet despite everything.
The announcement was the idea of ​​our CEO. We thought it made sense to low key announce to help with recruiting (we need a lot of MMO vets), to excite players, and because we thought it would likely leak anyway.

As you can also read above, there was another reason the developers made this announcement up front, simply to try to attract industry veterans, something that’s been pretty common for a few years.
Finally, Greg Street, Vice President of Riot, Explain that the studio does not want to spread out for the moment by unveiling its MMO, so as not to suffer comments or criticism if features are abandoned or modified along the way. The general public would take this as an admission of failure or a synonym for a problem, whereas it is a very frequent way of doing things in the development process.
Anyway, we will have to wait a few more months, at least, before discovering a little more about the MMO located in the League of Legends universe. Last spring, this same Greg Street wanted to be cautious about the feasibility of the file, but it would indeed seem that Riot Games is doing everything possible to offer us this game, within a few years.
