LoL: Riot Games cancels the LCL Spring Split and will not send a representative to MSI

The League of Legends Continental League (LCL) Spring Split 2022 has been officially canceled due to the war in Ukraine. Matches were put on hold last month after only the second week of competition, but today they were postponed until further notice.

The LCL, also absent from the Worlds?

After the VCS (the Vietnamese league) 2021, the MSI finds itself again amputated from a team this year. This time, it is the LCL which will not be represented following the cancellation of the Spring Split in the region.. During the last four international competitions, the LCL had been represented by Unicorns of Love.

“After discussions with the various teams, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring Split of the LCL (League of Legends Continental League). In these complicated times for the region, we believe that it is impossible to continue the championship. Unfortunately, as a result of this decision, the LCL will miss the Mid Season Invitational this year. As soon as the opportunity arises, we will immediately share information about the format of the LCL Summer Split.”

Difficult to predict the future of the league as long as the situation does not evolve in the region. If, unfortunately, the conflict were to drag on for months, it seems unlikely that Riot Games will organize the Summer Split. We can therefore assume not to see an LCL representative during Worlds 2022 which, we remind you, will be held this year in North America (In the United States, Canada and Mexico).
