LoL: Skin at 18,000 RP? Riot Games backtracks

League of Legends lives primarily on cosmetic monetization and has almost always managed to steer clear of consumer-targeting bad practices. It’s true that the developer has introduced loot boxes with Hextech crafting as an ancillary system to its main source of revenue and has some unconvincing practices, but it’s almost always been respectful of its players.

A rather clean record compared to the competition which was about to be blown away by the decision to introduce a cosmetic under a paywall of 18,000 RP.

Full reverse for Riot Games

On the occasion of the deployment of patch 12.6, the developer informed the community that he was going to remove one of his key projects from the big overhaul of League of Legends’ most exclusive content.

Riot Games continues the transformation, but removed the most controversial element of phase 2 of this project. This consisted of the introduction of a cosmetic that could only be obtained after opening a certain number of capsules during events whose total cost exceeded 100 euros.

Cosmetics would hide behind a paywall of more than 100 euros

While these and other cosmetics are still available to players who unlock more event capsules, they will also be marketed separately at the price of 125 Fantastic Essences.

As before, you will have to participate in the event and play a lot to get them, but this adjustment keeps intact the method of obtaining which most of the community used to obtain these exclusive skins. The only downside will be that we will have to learn how to manage this currency, which will be a little more limited and will unlock some of the best skins that all gamers will want to buy.

It should be noted that once the launch event for these skins is over, they will go in the Riot Games vault and can only be obtained through Hextech crafting or some time later (at least a year) when they return to the store.

Fantastic First Shop Content

On the occasion of the introduction of Fantastic Essences, Riot Games also revealed the content that will be available in this event store. There will be both new content and the return of some prestige skins.
